The art and literature of the Modernist/Avant-garde movements
(Expressionism, Existentialism, Futurism, Surrealism, etc) and
Postmodernist era often bear irreal and experimental aesthetics
which are as wondrously perplexing today in their subsequent
revivalist movements, sub-genre’s, and contemporary descendants
as when first realized almost one century ago. Each of these
movements, previous and current, rejects traditional form and style,
demands freedom of expression, and either distorts reality or
completely invents alternative realities with no regard to logic or the
laws of physics. This irreal and experimental aesthetic can
sometimes be seen as raw and primitive or chaotic. It is often bizarre,
strange, or even disturbing. It is always exploratory, highly
imaginative, and point blank fantastic.
